‘Tales of the Cape’ Special Tour with Seafood Chowder and Ale

Be inspired by the rich and intriguing history of the Cape Otway Lightstation, listen to captivating stories of shipwreck and survival. Join our keeper’s of history as we journey back in time and learn why Cape Otway Lighthouse is considered Australia’s most significant lighthouse.
Built in 1848, the lighthouse known as the ‘Beacon of Hope’ perches on towering sea cliffs where Bass Strait and the Southern Ocean collide.
This special ‘Tales of the Cape’ walking tour will explore stories of triumph and tragedy as we walk through the Lightstation heritage precinct to the isolated Cape Otway Cemetery. Appreciate daily life in the 19th Century for the small community in this remote location. The tour includes the Assistant Keepers Quarters (1849 -59), Telegraph Station (1859) and the Cape’s Cemetery.
Walk will cover approximately 2km’s. We suggest good walking shoes as this involves walking on uneven ground, a water bottle and sun/fly protection.
After the tour we will adjourn to the Lightkeeper’s Café for lunch with a view, where we will be serving a fresh locally sourced Seafood Chowder accompanied by a local craft ale.
After lunch feel free to wander the heritage precinct and climb the Lighthouse tower before heading home.
